It's been an unfortunately long time since I've been able to post, mostly because the day writing job as a freelancer and the work on other personal writing projects has impacted just how much time I have to write posts. It happens. Hopefully, things will change to give me more time sooner rather than later.
For now, though, here's a short post based on some rumors and, well, some decent evidence. @BrainClouds (David Flor) posted on Twitter that he discovered that the DM's Guild is adding a setting that many people already know and love - Eberron. It looks like Wizards of the Coast might have leaked their own secret a bit early through the DM's Guild, and David was keen-eyed enough to spot it.
Is Eberron Really Coming to Dungeons & Dragons 5E?
We aren't entirely sure of which settings are going to be added, as there have not been confirmations at the time of this writing. However, it has long been rumored that it is going to be Eberron, and thanks to the evidence mentioned above, it does seem to support that.
I've only read the previous campaign setting books; I've never actually played in the world. However, the setting was very interesting and had a different flavor from the Forgotten Realms. I look forward to seeing what an updated version of the setting might contain.
For example, in previous versions, there are unique races, such as warforged and shifters. It is quite likely that they and all of the other interesting bits will be in any new version, too. Psionic powers are a part of the setting, as well, and this is likely how they will be properly introduced to D&D 5E, love them or hate them.
There is a lot to enjoy from the setting, even if you are going to be running mostly a homebrew campaign. There will be things that you can mine and use from Wizards of the Coast books.
Will Other Settings Be Announced?
If there is only one setting that is being announced, then I imagine that it is going to be Eberron. However, if there is more than one setting that they are talking about, which I believe is the case, I am not entirely sure what it will be. Quite a few things make sense.
I think Planescape would work given some of the content in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, as would Spelljammer. There's a part of me that would love to see an updated Dragonlance because I love the world of Krynn... and the minotaur was recently added to the Unearthed Arcana. So, who knows? Honestly, I get excited for just about anything.
Forgive this rambling and late night post, but what do you think is going to be the next setting? What do you want it to be?
*update - not too long ago, it was discovered that one of the new releases will be Ravnica, a Magic: The Gathering world/location/city (?) (I know very little about it, so it's even more exciting for me!) Supposedly, announcements will be coming on 7-23... which is technically today for me. You can check out the Amazon listings for the guide, the map pack, and the dice. The release date for the book is currently November 20, 2018.
